The Toowong State School TechSpark BYOD Program empowers students to become confident, innovative, and responsible digital learners. TechSpark prepares our Year 5 and 6 students for success in the modern, technology-rich world.
What is TechSpark?
TechSpark is our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, where students use a personal Windows laptop as part of their everyday learning.
Technology is integrated across the curriculum to support students to:
- Access and create information
- Communicate and collaborate effectively
- Solve problems and think critically
- Develop the digital skills needed for future learning
Why TechSpark?
Through the TechSpark program, students benefit from:
- Personalised and flexible learning experiences

- Opportunities for collaboration and creativity
- Development of lifelong digital skills
- A smoother transition to high school learning environments
Students engage with a range of platforms and tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, OneNote, and QLearn, to support their learning.
Device Requirements:
To participate in the program, students require:
- A Windows laptop (Mac OS and Chromebooks are not supported)
- Windows 11 (not Windows 11 S mode)
- Minimum 4GB RAM and 120GB SSD
- A protective case and clearly labelled device

Program Expectations:
To support successful participation:
- Students and families must read and sign the TechSpark Student Participation Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
- Devices must be fully charged each day
- Students are expected to use their devices responsibly and for learning purposes
Supporting Families
We are committed to ensuring all students can participate.
- Shared school devices are available where required
- Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the school for support
Digital Citizenship and Safety
Students are explicitly taught how to use technology safely and responsibly.
This includes:
- Respectful and positive online behaviour
- Protecting personal information
- Understanding and preventing cyberbullying
Our approach is supported by resources from the eSafety Commissioner and the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.
