Welcome to the Toowong State School TechSpark BYOD Program

Igniting Digital Potential for a Brighter Future

The Toowong State School TechSpark BYOD Program empowers students to become confident, innovative, and responsible digital learners. TechSpark prepares our Year 5 and 6 students for success in the modern, technology-rich world.

What is TechSpark?

TechSpark is our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program, where students use a personal Windows laptop as part of their everyday learning.

Technology is integrated across the curriculum to support students to:

  • Access and create information
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Solve problems and think critically
  • Develop the digital skills needed for future learning

Why TechSpark?

Through the TechSpark program, students benefit from:

  • Personalised and flexible learning experiences
  • Increased access to digital tools and resources
  • Opportunities for collaboration and creativity
  • Development of lifelong digital skills
  • A smoother transition to high school learning environments

Students engage with a range of platforms and tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, OneNote, and QLearn, to support their learning.

Device Requirements:

To participate in the program, students require:

  • A Windows laptop (Mac OS and Chromebooks are not supported)
  • Windows 11 (not Windows 11 S mode)
  • Minimum 4GB RAM and 120GB SSD
  • A protective case and clearly labelled device

For more detailed specifications and purchasing options, visit our BYOD portal .

Program Expectations:

To support successful participation:

  • Students and families must read and sign the TechSpark Student Participation Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
  • Devices must be fully charged each day
  • Students are expected to use their devices responsibly and for learning purposes

Supporting Families

We are committed to ensuring all students can participate.

  • Shared school devices are available where required
  • Families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to contact the school for support

Digital Citizenship and Safety

Students are explicitly taught how to use technology safely and responsibly.

This includes:

  • Respectful and positive online behaviour
  • Protecting personal information
  • Understanding and preventing cyberbullying

Our approach is supported by resources from the eSafety Commissioner and the Alannah & Madeline Foundation.
