Welcome to the Toowong State School TechSpark BYOD Program

Igniting Digital Potential for a Brighter Future

The Toowong State School TechSpark BYOD Program empowers students to become confident, innovative, and responsible digital learners. Launching in 2025 for Year 5 students and expanding to include Year 6 in 2026, TechSpark equips young minds for success in the modern, technology-driven world.

What is TechSpark?

TechSpark is our school's unique Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Students bring a personal Windows laptop to school, blending technology into their learning experience. This approach supports the Australian Curriculum and fosters essential digital literacy skills, enabling students to:

  • Access, create, and communicate information effectively.
  • Solve problems and collaborate across diverse learning areas.
  • Adapt to the evolving digital landscape.

Why Choose TechSpark?

By joining the TechSpark program, students gain:

  • Personalised learning experiences tailored to their needs.
  • Improved collaboration and access to high-quality resources.
  • Lifelong digital skills to thrive in school and beyond.
  • A seamless transition to high school learning environments.
  • Engagement in innovative teaching methods using tools like Microsoft Office, OneNote, and QLearn.

Device Requirements:

  • Windows laptops only (Mac OS and Chromebooks are not supported).
  • Preferred specifications include touchscreen capabilities, a minimum of 4GB RAM, and a 120GB SSD.
  • Devices must run Windows 11 (not Windows 11S).

For more detailed specifications and purchasing options, visit our BYOD portal .

Program Essentials:

  • Students must read and sign the TechSpark Student Participation Agreement and the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
  • Devices should have protective cases and be clearly labelled with the student's name.
  • Students are responsible for ensuring their device is fully charged daily.

Supporting Families

We understand the importance of making this transition seamless. The school provides some access to shared devices for students who do not have a personal laptop. For families facing financial hardship, please contact the school for assistance.

Digital Citizenship and Safety

TechSpark emphasises responsible technology use. Students will learn to:

  • Engage positively online.
  • Protect personal information.
  • Avoid cyberbullying and misuse of digital tools.

Our partnerships with the Alannah & Madeline Foundation and the eSafety Commissioner ensures students are equipped with the knowledge to navigate the digital world safely.
