At Toowong State School, we provide meaningful leadership opportunities for our Year 5 and 6 students through the Toowong Supportive Leaders Program.
Toward the end of Year 5, students begin their leadership journey with a full-day training experience held offsite. This day focuses on building key skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution, helping students develop the confidence to take on active roles within our school community.
Students apply these skills throughout the year in a range of leadership opportunities, including:
Leadership Opportunities
- Prep Buddy Program – Supporting and guiding younger students as they begin their school journey
- School Captains – Representing the school and leading by example
- Sports House Captains – Encouraging teamwork and participation during events such as Cross Country, Athletics, and Ball Games
- Student Council – Providing a voice for students and contributing to school decision-making
- Assemblies and School Events – Leading and supporting whole-school events
Learning Through Leadership
These opportunities allow students to develop and apply their leadership skills in real and meaningful ways. Through ongoing support and guidance, students build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of contribution to the school community.
Our leadership program helps students grow not only as leaders, but as positive role models who support and inspire others.
