At Toowong State School, students have the opportunity to participate in our Instrumental Music Program from Years 4 to 6.
Students can apply to join the program at the end of Year 3 through a selection process. Students enrolling at the school after Year 3 may also apply, with applications considered on a case-by-case basis.
Learning an Instrument
Students in the program can learn a range of instruments, including:
- Woodwind instruments
- Brass instruments
- Percussion
Lessons are delivered in small group sessions during school time, allowing students to develop their skills in a supportive environment.
Performance Opportunities
As students build their skills, they participate in the school band and perform as part of an ensemble.
Participation in the band supports:
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Confidence and performance skills
- A lifelong appreciation of music
Costs and Equipment
Instrumental music tuition is provided free of charge.
A levy applies to cover consumables and resources associated with the program.
- Many Year 4 students can use a school instrument (school instrument levy applies)
- From Year 5 onwards, families are encouraged to consider purchasing an instrument
- Students learning instruments that are cost-prohibitive may continue to use a school instrument
Participation in instrumental music supports creativity, discipline, and confidence, while providing students with the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and collaborative musical community.
