At Toowong State School, students have the opportunity to participate in our Instrumental Music Program from Years 4 to 6.

Students can apply to join the program at the end of Year 3 through a selection process. Students enrolling at the school after Year 3 may also apply, with applications considered on a case-by-case basis.

Learning an Instrument

Students in the program can learn a range of instruments, including:

  • Woodwind instruments
  • Brass instruments
  • Percussion

Lessons are delivered in small group sessions during school time, allowing students to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

Performance Opportunities

As students build their skills, they participate in the school band and perform as part of an ensemble.

Participation in the band supports:

  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Confidence and performance skills
  • A lifelong appreciation of music

Costs and Equipment

Instrumental music tuition is provided free of charge.

A levy applies to cover consumables and resources associated with the program.

  • Many Year 4 students can use a school instrument (school instrument levy applies)
  • From Year 5 onwards, families are encouraged to consider purchasing an instrument
  • Students learning instruments that are cost-prohibitive may continue to use a school instrument

Participation in instrumental music supports creativity, discipline, and confidence, while providing students with the opportunity to be part of a vibrant and collaborative musical community.
